Prof Alison Cuellar

We are delighted to welcome Prof Alison Cuellar as DAAD Visiting Professor at UDE! Prof Cuellar will take up the position on 21.10.2024.

Prof Cuellar is Professor of Health Administration and Policy at George Mason University in the USA and a member of the prestigious National Bureau of Economic Research. Her research focuses on health systems, health insurance (Medicaid), mental health and justice-involved populations. She is a recognised health expert who is committed to improving health care, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Her work includes evaluating new forms of healthcare organisation, such as hospital networks and physician alliances, and their impact on quality, efficiency, cost, price and equity. She has also studied the intersection of mental health and the justice system, examining the impact of Medicaid policies on juvenile offenders and youth with mental health problems.

Prof Cuellar has worked extensively on perinatal health care, health systems integration, video telemedicine, and improving cardiology care in small primary care practices. Her research has been funded by prestigious institutions and private foundations such as the National Institute for Health Care Management, Robert Wood Johnson and MacArthur and has been published in leading journals.

In addition to her research activities, Dr Cuellar serves on various boards and committees. She is a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Committee on "Improving the Health and Well-Being of Children and Adolescents through Health System Transformation". She also chairs the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Visiting Professors Programme is funded by the UDE and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). As part of the programme, renowned professors from abroad will come to the UDE for one semester at a time to promote the internationalisation of teaching.
