Prof. Mikael Lindahl

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Mikael Lindahl as a DAAD Guest Professor at UDE! Professor Lindahl will join our faculty during the winter semester 2025/26.
Prof. Lindahl is an economist with a strong research focus on the economics of education, intergenerational mobility, and the interplay between education, labor markets, and health. His work addresses the causes and consequences of educational choices, the intergenerational transmission of human capital, social inequality, and the role of family background for educational, health, and labor market outcomes.
Professor Lindahl is among the internationally most visible and renowned scholars in his field. His academic career has included positions at the University of Amsterdam, the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) at Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. He is currently Professor of Economics at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. He is also a Research Fellow at CESifo, IZA, IFAU, and UCLS. For his outstanding research, he has received several prestigious awards and grants, including an ERC Starting Grant and two Swedish Research Professorships (among them by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences).
His research combines empirically rigorous methods with socially highly relevant questions, and his work has been published in leading journals such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, The Economic Journal, Review of Economics and Statistics, and American Economic Journal: Economic Policy. In addition, he is actively engaged in the academic community, serving, among others, as a member of the editorial board of the Economics of Education Review.

The guest professorship program is funded by UDE and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Within this program, distinguished professors from abroad are invited to UDE for one semester to strengthen the international dimension of teaching.
